Explainer Videos

Short videos explaining how hum works, who it's for, and the principles behind the platform.

If you are a funder or community organisation we recommend starting with video 1. If you are a community group we recommend starting with videos 2 – 4.

1

Hum — The Big Picture

15 min

A 15-minute overview covering what hum is, our guiding principles, who hum is for, the high-level architecture of the platform, and a short introduction to the team behind it.

2

Gov 1 — Community Led Governance

24 min

How the Gov 1 mechanism works: anybody in the community can request and receive money from the treasury, and everybody decides who should get it. Stewards play a supporting role. First 11 minutes for community members, from 11 minutes we introduce the steward functionality.

3

Gov 2 — Steward Council Governance

14 min

How the Gov 2 mechanism works: members elect a council of stewards and allocate them voting power, which they can change at any time. Stewards then weight-vote on proposals using that allocated power.

4

Community Edition

14 min

The Community Edition is designed for any community group who wants to more fairly and transparently spend and raise money.

5

Accessing the community phone app

5 min

How members get into their community on a phone: opening the invite link, signing in with their mobile number, and adding the app to the home screen on iPhone and Android.

6

Partner Dashboard

26 min

A walkthrough of the partner dashboard: creating and configuring a community, releasing funds from partner escrow into community treasury, monitoring activity, and managing community-manager access.

7

Funder Dashboard

5 min

A walkthrough of the funder dashboard: discovering partners and communities to back, releasing money into partner escrow or straight to a community treasury, and tracking how the funds you've allocated get spent.

8

Crypto

3 min

How hum supports crypto-native communities alongside traditional banking: flagging a currency as crypto in admin, capturing blockchain and wallet details in place of bank account info, and funding flows that work the same way on Ethereum, Base, and Solana.
